The Literary Arts Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador was established in 2005 to raise support for programs that involve the community in the literary arts, and to foster awareness, understanding and appreciation for the literature of this province. 

• Celebrate excellence in Newfoundland and Labrador literature by funding such awards as the Newfoundland and Labrador Book Awards and the Newfoundland and Labrador Credit Union Fresh Fish Award
• Educate the public about, and enhance its aesthetic appreciation of, this province's unique literary arts
• Provide formal training and related professional development opportunities to enhance the skills and abilities of writers in Newfoundland and Labrador
• Promote scholarly achievement in the study of the literature of this province.

Our current activities include co-presenting, with the Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador, the NL Book Awards and the Credit Union Fresh Fish Award, for which we receive generous sponsorship from many supporters. We also offer a fall writing retreat, called Piper's Frith: Writing at Kilmory, for emerging and established writers.

To build on our achievements, the Foundation is working to establish an endowment fund that will help ensure the literary arts continue to thrive in Newfoundland and Labrador for many years to come.
